is a general purpose high intensity sweetener that has been used for over
a century. It is also 500 times sweeter than sugar. So far not even a single
case has been reported in medical history that saccharin has caused any harm
to human beings.
Saccharin is pleasant in taste, colourless, odourless, readily
soluble, stable, functional, economical, non-toxic, produces no dental cavities
and comes out from the body unchanged without contributing to any metabolics
abnormalities (such as diabetics).
Saccharin is widely used in toothpaste, softdrinks, table-top
sweeteners, cakes, cookies, jams, chewing gums, canned fruit, desert toppings,
salad dressings, cosmetics, vitamins, pharmaceuticals, pan masala, supari,
etc.
